Mae Hong Son Loop - Part One
January 9-14, 2014
January 9-14, 2014
We drove a little over 700 km in the province of Mae Hong Son Loop. We planned on 5 days of riding, but plans are meant to change and we came home 6 days later:) This is the most mountainous province in Thailand, scattered with remote villages and adorned with many, many curves and turns. The scenery is breathtaking. Our days were filled with sunshine, but as we climbed in elevation the temperature would drop. When the sun went to sleep each day, we were putting on warmer clothes.
Layers of trees, and so many shades of green.
A field of straw flowers along the side of the road, farm fields in the background.
Many of the trees were sporting fall colours.
First coffee stop, day 1.
After the waterfall...

Ali scored a flat tire…so of course, we put her in the back of a pick-up truck with a couple of locals and sent her down the road to get it fixed.
No town or village was close-by, so after stopping a few times, a mechanic was secured to fix the flat. Jim and I lost her for awhile, but soon the lost was found. It was our only mechanical issue, unless you count the new tire Omar needed because he wore out his back tire:)
Gladiola flowers were being sold at the entrance to the Doi Inthanon National Park...
to be placed at the royal chedis
at the top of the mountain.
Doi Inthanon, the highest peak in Thailand..2 465.3342 metres above sea level.
Our first home on the voyage.
Which way do you think?

A familiar sign along the journey.
Are we having fun yet? Yup!
