We have been gone 103 days:) We are currently in northern Thailand, in Chiang Mai. This is where we will start.
We arrived Dec. 23. This is our Christmas Eve tuk tuk drive through the city to the night market. Our driver was wearing a Santa hat, and playing Christmas songs…until he switched it up to Michael Jackson:) Ali and he were driving and dancing.
Omar and Jim…Tracey do you remember our tuk tuk ride in Copan Ruinas?
Christmas morning we awoke to a Christmas tree, Bing Crosby crooning on the computer, and Santa Claus did
find us here.
At our guesthouse, outside of our rooms where Santa placed the tree and presents. Most of you know, we have been travelling with our good friends Omar and Alison since the end of November. They jumped on a sailboat at the end of July in Darwin, Australia. We met them in the Cameron Highlands in Malaysia, hopped on their sailboat (more on that later), and we have been travelling together ever since.
Chiang Mai has been all about learning stuff for the four of us. This is our first cooking school. Our teacher was so animated and great fun. He is in the yellow scarf teaching us about rice at the local market.
Often we see the staff at our local restaurants head to the market, after we have placed our orders.
It is so great to eat such fresh ingredients.
Tasty market snacks. The plastic bags are a whole separate issue!
We chopped…
We stirred...
Jim is tearing apart mushrooms…are little friend is taking in every step…"someday I want to grow up to be just like him…I wonder if I can grow a beard like that…"
We pounded…harder and faster…and after learned that the local Thai people buy their curry paste at the markets already pounded by someone else.
We prepared 5 dishes, and ate with are new international family (Korea, Hong Kong, Spain, Columbia, Hungry, Singapore, America and Canada) We laughed as much as we cooked. It was an incredibly fun day.
Fresh papaya salad and Thai spring rolls.
