Croatia, Part 3, Plitvice Lakes and National Parks, 2014
One of the reasons we came to Croatia was to see the Plitvice Lakes.
Unesco proclaimed the Plitvice Lakes a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. The civil war began in Plitvice on March 21, 1991. Rebel Serbs took control of the park headquarters, using hotels for barracks. The Croatian army retook the park in August, 1995, and the restoration began.
We began with a boardwalk through the wetlands.
Lots of the trees and vegetation reminded us of home.
The songs of birds were constant.
Magic was everywhere. The photos will speak for themselves. This journey is for you Christine:)
